Q: Who can give blood?
A. You must be at least 17 years old, have a picture ID and know your social security number, weigh 110lbs. or more and be in good health. We suggest you eat a good meal before and after your donation. It’s also good to drink plenty of non-caffeinated beverages.

Q: How long does it take to donate blood?
A. It takes only about 5-10 minutes to collect the blood and about 45 minutes complete everything including paperwork and refreshments. Each unit of blood donated can save up to four people’s lives when processed into therapeutic components. Not a bad return on your investment of time.

Q: How much blood do I have to give?
A. Less than one pint, about 450cc. of blood, is taken when blood is donated. The average adult has about two pints of blood for every 25lbs of body weight. The body manufactures blood constantly.

Q: Can I get a disease from donating?

A. No. You cannot catch anything from donating blood. Each needle used during the blood donation process is sterile and used only once. The needle is disposed of in a specially marked biohazardous container immediately following the donation.
